Gordon Bell Fielding was born on 8th October 1885 in Hull, Yorkshire England. As it was a port-city, he gained interest in seafaring really fast as a young boy and would have gone to sea really quickly, he went through many experiences onboard diffrent ships, having achieved his mates certificates quickly, achieving rank of an Officer.

He went on to serve for White Star Line during Great War, serving onboard various ships of theirs before joining Britannic in September of 1916, serving onboard her during her Sixth Round Trip in November of that same year.
