Biography

Percival Jonathan Walten was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire on the cold morning of 12th February 1892. He was born as third child of Alfred Walten and Anne Fletcher. He grew alongside two older siblings and three younger, George [B. 1887], Juliet [B. 1889], Stephen [B. 1894], Aaron [B. 1894] and Dennis [ B. 1896]. He was educated at Sheffield Elementary, as well as that, his brothers and himself were sent to sing in Church Choir by their father. Percy sung in church choir until he grew older, when he by his own decision quit the choir. His original plans for the adulthood were to get himself engaged in Economics and Politics. Even if only 13, Percy was a described as a smart and taciturn fellow. It was at 14, that he finally realized what interested him the most...

At only 14, Walten demanded going to pursue his career at sea, but his parents disagreed. So, one morning, while everyone was asleep, Walten snuck out of his home and made his way to Liverpool. It was not very hard, as he apparently snuck onto a freight train to Liverpool. At his arrival in Liverpool, he would immediately joined Gold-Northern Steamship Company, whose founders barely cared about him being a child. He served onboard many of their ships as just an Ordinary Seaman, though one voyage changed everything... It was the Claudia Ravenscrone's return voyage in May 1907... He remembered a lot of faces since that very voyage... Anyhow, he would soon leave Gold-Northern Steamship Company to join Elder Dempster Line, again as an Ordinary Seaman, what can he say? They pay better. After a few successful voyages with Elder Dempster Line, some of which he served under Officers Lightoller and Lowe, he decided to finally quit the Elder Dempster Line. So it was now, 24th February 1910, that he joined Royal Navy Reserve.
After nine months, that he served in Royal Navy Reserve, he has acquired the rank of a Petty Officer, the ship's policeman. So it was now that Walten would finally return to passenger service with...

The White Star Line. The company that promised better pays and better stays to young Walten, and due to his time with Royal Navy Reserve, he would gain the role of Master-At-Arms. It was February 1911 when Walten joined, and the following month, March 1911, he was appointed as Master-At-Arms onboard Suevic. In June 1911, he joined Olympic on her maiden voyage, alongside himself was Master-At-Arms James Bryan Parker, whom was way more experienced than Percy. After a couple more voyages onboard Olympic, the unexpected happened when Olympic collided with HMS Hawke. Percy was in his cabin when it happened, so he didn't have much to say about the incident. After Olympic was sent to repairs, Percy was transferred to Oceanic, again serving under Officer Lightoller, and as well some other Officers that he'd serve with onboard the Titanic, those being Sixth Officer Moody and Third Officer Pitman. After Olympic was back from repairs, he would serve on her again.

He was onboard Olympic until 1915, when he was appointed to join Her Majesty's Hospital Ship Britannic on her Maiden Voyage, staying onboard until now. He is onboard with the other Master-At-Arms, the one he'd met before, James 'Jamie' Bryan Parker. Jamie and Percy are now awaiting Britannic to set sail once again on her Sixth Round Trip.
