Biography
Florence Allison Edwards
~ Born October 16, 1893
~ Born in Paddington, London at St. Mary's Hospital
~ 23 years at the time.
Florence endured a difficult childhood despite being raised in a wealthy household as a middle child to a family of five. She received a private education and has dreamed of traveling and becoming an actress. After several years of hospital training, Florence entered service as a wartime nurse. She eventually ended up being assigned to the H.M.H.S Britannic as a member of the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service.
Florence was easily overwhelmed, and the sudden war left her frightened and uncertain. Despite her fears, she found the courage to serve as a wartime nurse.
Being the only daughter in her family, Florence had always been closest to her mother. Until the age of eleven, she felt rather disconnected from her two brothers and her father as she shared few interests with them and often found her father's expectations somewhat demanding. As she grew older, however, she gradually became closer to her father and brothers. With both of her brothers serving in the war, Florence often wondered whether she would ever see them again. She would take time to pray to God for their safety, hoping they would return home unharmed.
~ R.M.S Titanic
Florence and her mother had been aboard the R.M.S Titanic during their journey to immigrate to America. At only eighteen years old, she was fortunate to have survived the disaster alongside her mother. Her father and two brothers remained in London due to business commitments and were to travel to America at a later date. Even after the sinking, Florence pictured 'what if' scenarios, wondering what might have happened if her entire family had boarded the doomed ship. What if she lost her father? What if she lost her siblings? Those questions, being really irrelevant now, linger in her mind for a good while. Eventually, the entire family settled in America for approximately a year before returning to London before World War I.
~ H.M.H.S Britannic
Coming onboard as a nurse, she is brand new to Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service and took and despite her inexperience, she took great pride in caring for the injured. Feeling rather skeptical with the White Star Line, she felt hesitant to even approach the H.M.H.S Britannic, knowing the history she recently has experienced with the sister ship, R.M.S Titanic and hearing about the horrid accident the R.M.S Olympic had. She would always think of the White Star Line as a cursed line and did not really feel as if the Olympic Class Liners were even safe to travel on. However, she did not feel so worried, believing Britannic would not make a transatlantic passenger voyage because she was serving as a hospital ship during the war.
" Work is the best way to set your path, darling. No matter how much money you are born with."
