DATE OF BIRTH: September 23rd, 1887

AGE: 29

NATIONALITY: American

BOARDING: Southampton, England

BIOGRAPHY: Daniel Barrel was born to Korean immigrants in San Francisco, California. He is described as kind, friendly, and caring to colleagues and patients.

He grew up living a peaceful life as a young, kind man. But that all changed on April 18th, 1906 when a severe earthquake struck San Francisco. Daniel survived, but he lost his parents in the disaster. With no siblings or close friends to live with, he moved out of town and went over the world until he decided to live in England.

He eventually decided to become a sailor, joining the White Star Line on 1910, and he first met Marshall Hotchkiss on the R.M.S. Oceanic. They became close friends and kept working together for the next two years until March 1912, when a coal strike had cancelled the Oceanic's next voyage. Barrel was quick to find out about the maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic, which was scheduled to set sail from Southampton on April 10th, 1912. Barrel and Hotchkiss applied as an able seaman and steward respectively as quick as they could, and boarded the grand vessel for her maiden voyage.

On April 14th, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg and began to rapidly take on water. Barrel was assigned up to the Boat Deck, and helped distressed passengers board the lifeboats before he and Hotchkiss jumped into Collapsible D, the last lifeboat to be successfully lowered before the Titanic sank. After being rescued by the Carpathia and being taken to New York, Barrel and Hotchkiss tried to stay away from the sea and lived together on land for a while, but in September 1916, two years after the outbreak of the First World War, they were recalled by the White Star Line to work aboard the H.M.H.S. Britannic. This will be Barrel's third trip on the Britannic.
