Biography
A Traditional English Upbringing: Claire Monroe was born into a wealthy and well-established English family residing in Wiltshire. Raised within English high society, her world has been governed by social convention and obligation. Still, her upbringing was comfortable, marked by the benefits of a classical education. An Independent Streak: As the youngest of her siblings, Claire had instilled into her the importance of propriety, reputation, and familial duty. Her father expects strict adherence to tradition and the preservation of the family's standing. Claire should have a suitable marriage, uphold the Monroe name, and produce children. Nevertheless, her well-mannered demeanor allows a more independent streak to shine through in her smaller decisions. A Keen Interest In Charitable Work: Even before the outbreak of the Great War, Claire took a keen interest in charitable work. Assisting poorer families in need and contributing to the welfare of her local community, her motivation has always been one of genuine concern for those in need, rather than social obligation. Through these experiences, Claire has become increasingly conscious of the disparity between her own circumstances and the hardship of others. The war only brought her convictions sharper into focus. Aspiring Nurse With The Voluntary Aid Detachment: As reports of casualties and the growing demand for medical services reached her, Claire became determined to find a more direct means of contributing to the war effort. Her interest gradually turned towards nursing and voluntary medical assistance, with her eventual intention being to join the Voluntary Aid Detachment. Such aspirations were met with reservations by her father, who regarded practical medical work an unsuitable undertaking for her. Not wanting to wholly prevent her charitable activities, however, the prospect was humored. Given Claire's age, a more formal nursing appointment would, after all, have to wait. Through her family's connections, Claire obtained an opportunity to assist a medical organization as a medical supplies assistant. Fulfilling a role in a supporting capacity, she has now undertaken duties connected with supplies, linens, records, and other necessary preparations as needed. Embarking on the HMHS Britannic, Claire hopes to gain experience toward her eventual goal of serving as a formally appointed nurse.
